Well, it's a busy time of year!

I know, I know. It has been a while since I updated the blog. Between putting gardens to bed, traveling to see family and getting ready for the various holidays there has just not been any time to talk about things. The warm weather lasted until last saturday. We were lucky this year ... got the deer netting and christmas lights up before the first snow. We also remembered to put up the shrub protection. I think we did not remember to do something about the gutters though. Can't think of everything I guess.

Then the snow came. One day it is up in the 60's - sunny and warm, the next day it is in the 40's, but still bright and sunny, then overnight it drops to the 30's. And it snows... kind of a sporadic just-barely-snow at first. A giddy snow... I experience a wild mixture of excitement and dread. We must, and do, light a fire in the fireplace, even knowing it will cause the bedroom and especially bathroom to really get cold, but where we are watching the snow fall, and doing small projects, it is toasty. Everyone is gathered to bask in the heat - some to warm up the old bones. Ginger can't decide between the electric heating pad and the hearth.

Occasionally we can hear the snow - that's not generally good news, but the bouts are brief and soon enough we cannot hear anything happening outdoors and get up to look at the snow accumulate, dreaming of the winter to come. Skiing this year? Maybe just xc - I don't think the knees will tolerate tele.

The snow begins...

The snow continues - how much do you think we'll get?

What a beautiful sight the first thing the next morning... but brrr it is cold...
